Please review this document: Travis TAG On-Site Assessment Information 2025-2026

The On-Site Assessment is 50 points (half) of a student's total score. All students take the same test, regardless of the grade level for which they are applying.

The On-Site Assessment is two parts and BOTH parts are computer-based (new for 2024-2025)

  • Computer-based: Critical Thinking - assessed using the NNAT3 exam.
  • Computer-based: Writing - assessed using an argumentative/opinion typed essay. This portion of our on-site assessment is aligned to the Texas 3rd-5th grade STAAR essay.

Please read the On-Site Assessment Information document linked above for more information about the test including testing accommodations.

NOTE: The essay portion changed last school year. Students will no longer be responding to a personal narrative writing prompt. Instead, we have aligned the essay to the Grade 3-5 STAAR test, which tests argumentative/opinion writing.

Once your application has been submitted and processed, you will receive an automated message on your application dashboard with your student's test date. Test dates are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Please plan to arrive at 8:30 AM, to allow for check-in and room assignments. The test will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Students will be done by 11:00 AM.

NOTE: If you are a Dallas ISD student, please be sure to bring your district-issued device for testing. We only have devices for out-of-district students. The NNAT3 exam must be administered on a district-issued device.

Students who were nominated for Dallas ISD's Talented and Gifted Program during the fall of the current school year were assessed using the NNAT3.  Students with existing NNAT3 fall 2024 scores will not be reassessed for magnet school testing during this application season. The application process will follow the same existing protocol used for state and national assessments.
